Lula homologa terras indígenas
O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva homologou a demarcação de nove terras indígenas, num total de mais de 5 milhões de hectares (ha) – a maioria na Amazônia. Os decretos estão na edição de ontem do Diário Oficial da União.
A maior das reservas criadas hoje é a Terra Indígena Trombetas Mapuera, no Amazonas, com território de quase 4 milhões de hectares, o equivalente a 40 mil campos de futebol. A área se destina a mais de dez etnias.

People of different ethnicity are subject to deprivation in wide regions of the globe. Development of the modern world takes their blood first. They are the toiling mass. They build the roads and they are used to clear the forests although the forests have been their age-old shelter. Thus President Lula’s plan on the ‘indigenous land’ for the ethnic people of the Amazon belts may draw some attention. Still one must have information in details to reach to any conclusion. Experience in India on the issue of government’s treatment with the tribal people has never been good.
