Problems like this have to be tacked from the grass roots. There are many poor people who can’t afford to feed their families well and in that case working for criminal gangs is an easy way of becoming rich. Rio de Janeiro authorities have to make sure that they care for the poor and by maintaining proper law and order they can stop criminal activities in the earliest level.

Incidents like this had just shown that we have a lot of things to improve especially the way in which we approach illegal businesses. No question that we need to be hard on criminal guys but respecting human rights of people both poor and rich must be of particular importance. Its time for improvement for Rio de Janeiro police force especially when considering the Olympic games which is going to come sooner.

Life has to move on. We can’t hijacked by the past and we have to think futuristic. Law enforcement agencies had just proved that they can’t do their job efficiently. We need more investments and training to security apparatus especially the ones dealing with high profile gangs. Efficient working of security apparatus means lesser incidents like this happening in the future.

Sometimes it makes me wonder when does all this violence would end in Rio de Janeiro and when can it be a world class city inhabited by peace loving people. Criminal gangs which engage in drug trafficking, kidnapping, murdering must be bought to justice in a way that innocents especially the poor ones are not affected by it.

Time and again unfortunate things like this happen and earn bad name for Brazil overall. It happened in a time when the things are just going in the right path with the winning of Olympic bid. Its important that Rio de Janeiro maintains its image as a fascination and a colorful city than as a city prone to violence.

I think the problem with the drug traffickers have nothing to do with the Olympics issue. I’m sure the police forces have been dealing with the problem for quite some time already, and it’s just a coincidence that something bad happened a week after the announcement about the Olympics on 2016.

Rio de Janerio is not all bad. There are still a lot of positive things about this huge city. It is famous for a lot of world famous attractions sadly the violence in the city had shaken the confidence of many people. The city administration had to make sure that violence like the recent one won’t happen in the near future and criminal gangs have to be controlled at all costs.

The costs of human losses to control the criminal gangs in a big metropolis like Rio de Janeiro is staggering. So many innocent lives were lost for the past few years. Both sides are cruel and there are reports of extra judicial killings.And the crackdown on people living on poor suburbs would only make the city more volatile and violent. It is time that the entire system is reexamined and a solution found to this problem.

Rio de Janeiro had to change its public image sooner or later. Becoming one of the most violent city in Brazil won’t help it much in attracting much needed tourists revenues or new investment opportunities. Further the International Olympic committee won’t be happy if anything unfortunate is going to happen during the Olympics. Its time for changing the city’s image as well as its bad reputation.

It is really disheartening to read about such events happening in my city, Rio de Janeiro. There should be a complete change in the city’s current situation. There should be an awareness campaign in the city in order to attract all Rio de Janeiro loving people under one banner and transform the city into one of the peaceful, prosperous ones. And the coming Olympic event would only make the cleaning up of this mess high priority.

Incidents like the recent crackdown on drug traffickers and the violence that soon followed bring bad name for the city which is going to host Olympics soon. Events like this would only increase fear among tourists who are going to come in huge numbers. It is high time that authorities clear up this mess before everything gets out of hand.

Each major metropolis in the world has its own problem.Rio de Janeiro is blessed with drug trafficking gangs and the police knew very little about human rights. People who live in poor areas of the city must have more legal access and any human rights violation committed against them should be seriously punished at the same time drug gangs and kidnappers have to be duly punished for their crimes.

There should be more transparency on how Rio de Janeiro law enforcement agencies work. Everyone should work according to law not above the law. The city of Rio de Janeiro has great potential and could become the hub of the whole of Latin America. The winning of Olympic games bid for Rio de Janeiro is just one of the examples of how a world class city Rio de Janeiro can be.

Honestly, I don’t believe with all of these human rights violations. Maybe a few can be true, but most of it is a lie. People in the slums wouldn’t choose this kind of life if they only had a better choice. Their government should start giving them an alternative source of income.

I guess there will always be people that would be against the Olympic Games. Every country I’ve heard that hosted the Olympics had protesters against it. For the case of Rio, I would say that people in the slums just wants to have a better source of income to be able to sustain the needs of their families.
